Week Sixteen

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

5/14 - 5/18

The roof is 90% complete, and exterior trim and siding has work is down to hand railing and lattice work. The circular two story foyer walls and rounded second floor balcony and stair are all that lack on the interior framing. The rear sliding door finally arrived and was installed. We are waiting for the last four direct-set window units in the back wall that I added after

Week Fifteen

5/7 - 5/11

Traffic is still a problem but everyone is getting used to the delays now. The weather really pummeled us ... the sub-tropical storm (tropical storm Ana) off shore brought pretty high winds making Fripp Island's beach looked like a scene from a Hawaiian surfer movie complete with curling breakers.

We made some good progress this week nevertheless. The roofers began

Fourteenth Week

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

4/30 - 5/4

Very difficult traffic congestion. Every day is like rush hour in Miami, all day long. A few editorials are now calling for the death penalty for the barge operator who struck the McTeer bridge.

I spent three hours going from Fripp Island back to my office in Beaufor this afternoon. We are fortunate to have hired a trim crew from Saint Helena Island. They have started the

Thirteenth Week

4/23 - 4/27

Sorry for the delay in getting this out. I have been out of town for four days, and it is disconcerting how much can go amiss in a short amount of time.

The Port Royal bridge was struck by a barge and has been shut down for a projected three months. Hence, all traffic has been diverted towards the old bridge through downtown Beaufort causing hours long delays. I am trying

Week Twelve

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

4/16 - 4/20

The plumbers finally made it back on Friday. HVAC workers finished their primary rough-in (other than punch work), and so did the electrician. The exterior trim carpenters are making their way to the back of the house now, so it has been fairly active in the camera's view as they frame the rear balconies and the screened porch.

The main entry stair is being fabricated

Week Eleven

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

4/9 - 4/13

A good week! We passed the ‘framing and strapping' inspection Monday morning and immediately began working on siding and exterior trim. The siding on the front and sides (yes, both areas that are out of camera range) are complete. My guys have been working on the Ipe decking in the back and the glass block on the sides. The glass block panels on the second floor and

Tenth Week of Construction

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

4/2 - 4/6

Electrical rough-in continued this week. HVAC finally got started on Thursday. Doors in back were set and we are ready for the framing and strapping inspection, scheduled for Monday. We must pass this inspection prior to wrapping the with Tyvek house wrap and felt on the roof ... the inspector checks the nailing on the plywood and the proper hurricane straps and tie-downs strap

Week Nine

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

3/26 - 3-30

CD Electric began their electrical rough-in on Tuesday. The windows and doors were delivered on Tuesday also. The framers built the dormers on the front of the house, ran plywood on the front and side walls, and set the windows (all except for the two at the rear bedrooms).

Doug Pine, the plumber, was injured on another job - the Weston Hotel on Hilton Head Island - and

Week Eight

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

3/19 - 3/23

Seemed like a long week. The plumbers started their rough-in. We are using Oceanside Plumbing - they do most of their work on very expensive custom homes on Hilton Head Island, so we feel fortunate to be added to their busy schedule. Owner Doug Pine is a true craftsman and it shows in all of the work that he does. He will be installing a hot water recirculating pump to eliminate

Week Seven

Posted by: Chester in Untagged  on

3/12 - 3/16

No less productive but I had hoped for a little more progress. The project is falling behind on the roof framing - probably by a week at this point. If you look at the roof framing plans you will see just how complicated the top of the structure is. I have had to put back the plumbing and HVAC rough-in crews as I do not want plywood going on the roof with people working underneath
