Second week of construction

2/5-2/10

Inspection passed Monday afternoon, too late to pour concrete.

On Tuesday the foundation crew poured 80 yards of concrete to make the new grade beams. That is a lot of concrete! The weight limit on the bridge to Fripp restricts the trucks to 6.5 yards per trip, so there were five trucks lined up to pour and make return trips first thing in the morning. We created quite a traffic snarl. I was very glad it was not summer.

The framing crew began framing the rear deck, boardwalk to the beach, and the rear floor system. The Ipe decking material arrived Wednesday. (*IPÊ is an environmentally responsible choice which resists rot, decay, insects, and mold without the use of toxic chemicals used in other decking products. It is naturally fire resistant and has been awarded an 'A1' rating.) * www.ipe-wood.com Installation will begin next week.

Masons laid block for the foundation. They will form the concrete columns - the supports for the steel columns - on Monday. I will call for another inspection on Tuesday, followed by another concrete pour to fill the hollow block columns, walls, and forms. This will complete the foundation work.

All in all, it has been a productive week. The weather is cold in the mornings but the rain has been negligible - none all week until Friday evening. I had relocated a dozen palm trees on the lot to make way for the new work. A couple appear to be showing signs of stress, but most are doing well thus far. ]

Feel free to view progress at http://63.162.200.17:1201 This is a view of the rear decking looking towards Tarpon. The resident deer check our progress on a daily basis - look for them before 7:30 in the morning.
